Due to popular request I've Started Working on the snake editer. Needs a tiny bit of a clean up and then maybe 400 lines of code to get the thing functioning but for me this is the hard bit out of the way.

Hopefully the interface isn't too confusing but you'll be able to change the texture, colour and model for the head, tail and up to 5 body segments (which will then repeat).

The astute among you have probably noticed the second snake. This is of course for multiplayer and split screen is planned for the build after next along with the fully functioning snake editor.

We now have a new level/model editor and you'll be seeing some of his work soon along with a proper introduction. Once these are implimented the game will be ready for early access in online stores.

Couldn't be happier with the result, not sure if I deserve it but thanks for voting everyone!

Monetisation

I think the game isn't far of sellable level now so I'm going to start looking in to selling it as a standalone on PC and other platforms.

It will be availibe dirt cheap while it's in early access and the price will go up when it's complete.

Newgrounds has given me countless hours of entertainment for free over the years though so I'll make as much content availible here as realistically possible.

So why would anyone want to pay money for it?

As much as I'd like to have Newgrounds players have access to everything I don't want the game to take too long to load or players will click off. As the game gets larger I can set the game up to download levels when they are sellected which should stop players getting board but NG still has a 100mb limit which will be easily filled once 3d levels, custom snakes and new music become availible.

Performance is also an issue since WebGL is much slower than standalone builds so there's only so far I can push things on here. Standalone builds will have access to higher res models, more detailed textures, higher quality lighting as well as AA, HDR and all the other bells and whistles you'd expect from a paid 3d game.

The paid for version will also (eventually) be packed with extra features which either won't fit in the download limit or won't work with WebGL. At the moment I'm considering help files, concept art, level editor, more advanced snake designer, screenshots, video recording, twitch intergration and whatever else I can throw at it.

After that who knows, maybe console or mobile ports. Split screen is on the way and consoles are sorrily lacking in split screen action these days.

Made a few changes:

First off I deleted the early snake medal. It was a hard decision and I know this might upset some of you but it was causing too many complications, not unlocking for some people and it's not fair on people who will be playing on other platforms. Don't worry there will be many more badges to replace it in the future.

Due to popular demand I've added particle effects when you eat fruit. It will probably be refined in future releases but it's there. Let me know what you think and how you think it could be improved.

Objects which get between the snake head and the camera will now turn turn semi-transparent. This will likely be refined in the future as well and it will become very useful when levels with obsticles are introduced.

People demanded a wider field of view so I gave it to them but other people thought it was too wide so I thought the best sollution was to give people the option to change it from the pause menu. I've also added another slider to change camera distance in 3rd person mode.

Fruit will no longer spawn inside the snake unless the snake is so long it's covering virtually everything (nobody has got anywhere near that level yet).

-----------------------------------------------------

Lots more to come in future releases.

Snake designer!

New pretty high detailed levels

Better sounds!

More game modes

More medals / scoreboards

PC and Mac standalone releases!

Still in very early development but I want him and his team to get a lot of suport. We're both historical fencers and will be using this to try to bring a level of authentisity to melee combat in games.

It's come to my attention that a dozen or so sites have embedded Flying Snake on their websites. Honestly I'm not sure what to think. Some of them have gone to quite a bit of effort to rewrite the description, upload new screenshots and even upload gameplay videos.

I'm finding the whole thing a bit surreal. I don't mind people embedding the game, all publicity is good publicity after all and my adshare isn't particularly impressive anyway. The only issues I have are that most of these sites aren't embedding older versions which don't represent the current state of the game, some of these sites are higher on search results than Newgrounds and none of them link back here.

I'm thinking future releases will have a Newgrounds logo on the menu screen and I'll find a way to get the game open a new tab back here.

Anyone else experianced this? Thoughts?

Level designer needed for 3D Flying Snake.

* 8 Levels needed

* Head and tail sections (Maybe 10 of each)

* Head accessories (Maybe 10)

* New fruit models (10 or so)

Models/levels must be compatible with Unity and Blender. Texture resolutions and poly count must be reasonably low in order to run smoothly and download quickly on WebGL quickly though higher quality models and textures for PC/Mac would be good too.

Origin should be set to the neck end on the head and towards the body on the tail section for easier integration.
Origin on fruit should be set to centre of mass.

Simple animations might be cool too if appropriate for accessory and head models.

All obstacles and walls need to be separate objects so a script can be applied to them which makes them transparent when they are obstructing the view.

scale and rotation also need to be applied so to make import easier too.

I'm offering a 20% revenue share here plus 10% on whatever app stores I port it to if you fill these criteria and I'm satisfied with your work. You'll also be featured in the credits.

PM me if you're interested and link me to a sample of your work. I'm on holiday next week and my internet will be limited but I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
